More About Kim

Kim Metcalf is an environmental scientist and “double dawg” with both BS and MS degrees in Environmental Health Science from the University of Georgia. She has played a variety of roles in her professional career, including working for Georgia Power Company, The Southern Company, and Southwire Company. Kim has also worked as an environmental consultant for A.T. Kearny.

Kim grew up in the construction industry – her dad was a home-builder. In 2001, stormwater regulations were implemented for the construction/development industry and she began getting calls about these new regulations from family friends in the industry. With one child and another on the way, she thought this was an opportunity to fill a niche. In 2001, she founded Riverbend Environmental Inc. to assist clients with construction stormwater issues.

Under her leadership, the firm quickly diversified into multiple lines of work for residential, commercial, and municipal clients. Riverbend Environmental, Inc. provides expertise regarding Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, wetlands and state waters delineations, environmental permitting, industrial and construction stormwater, MS4, brownfields, and other environmental issues.

Kim holds many environmental certifications including Certified Environmental Auditor, Registered Environmental Manager, Level 1B Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Inspector, Level II Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Plan Designer, and Level I & Level II Erosion Trainer with the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission. She is also a Certified Professional in Erosion & Sediment Control (CPESC) and a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Certified Lead Inspector. Riverbend Environmental, Inc. is the preferred consultant of the Athens Area Home Builders Association (AAHBA). Kim was honored to receive the AAHBA 2023 Professional of the Year award.

On a personal note, Kim is the mother of four children and is married to her UGA sweetheart. She is an active member and the current vice president of the Athens Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association. She is also a UGA Alumni Association Executive Board Member. Kim was named as one of the UGA Alumni Association’s “40 Under 40” in 2011 and her business was recognized as one of the UGA Alumni Association’s “100 Fastest Growing Bulldog Businesses” in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Kim resides in Watkinsville, Georgia. Most days, she is in the field evaluating site compliance, obtaining environmental samples, and analyzing the results or conducting training programs. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering for various UGA-related organizations and serving as a mentor to UGA students pursuing a degree in the environmental field.
